SUGAR MINOTT

Sugar Minott has an unmistakable style which is both exciting on stage and passionate on record. He began his career, as many other reggae artist have, with Coxonne Dodd at Studio One. Establishing himself as a unique artist with a rich voice and exciting stage presence, Sugar has gone on to record for a number of myriad of producers as well as producing a number albums for his own Youthman Promotions Label. Sugar has always been a strong believer in his roots and has put alot of money and energy into his Youthman Promotions Studio and label in Kingston where he grew up.

Sugar Minott's Black Roots record label and the Youthman Promotion sound crew offered more lyrical variety and talent than virtually any other sound system then or since. He helped bring many of the artists that later were to become trendsetters in their own right, such as Tenor Saw, Nitty Gritty, Junior Reid, Frankie Paul, Michael Palmer, Half Pint and Little John.

One of Jamaica’s favorite sons, Sugar Minott continues to produce hit records, including the 2002 INDIE winner for Best Reggae Album, “Rare Gems”. Wherever he performs, Sugar plays to a strong base of loyal fans, whether it be in the clubs of London, the dancehalls of Kingston or the nightclubs of New York City.
