The Alpha Project
Jeff 'King Django' Baker, Byron Maier, Sparrow Martin band teacher and Sister Susan. At the Alpha Boys School in Kingston Jamaica, February 2013 presenting instruments to the school.
The Victoria BC Ska Society is currently looking for donations of instruments and money for the Alpha Boys School in Jamaica. Why the Alpha Boys School? Because it is in need and has blessed us with an amazing and talented list of alumni including Don Drummand, Tommy McCook, Johny Dizzy Moore, Desmond Dekker and Rico Rodguez. It is time we give back to them. We are collecting instruments that the school is in need of and ensuring they are serviced and in good working order for the kids. The Alpha Project will provide very needed instruments to kids that are in dire need of help. Byron will be traveling to the Alpha Boys School to present them to the children.
If you can't make a instrument donation, please make a financial donation. 100% of donations will go directly to the school and kids.
Items still needed are:
French Horns
Baritones
Upright base
Xylophone
Vibraphone
Flutes
3 of each Saxophone: alto, tenor, baritone and soprano

Here is a news clip on A Channel about the project.
The Alpha Project is the brain child of Byron Maier, the President of the Victoria BC Ska Society. Byron, also known as the Ska Boss wanted to find a way to give back to the roots of where the music comes from and a positive way to reach out to the kids. Our society's mandate is to Entertain, Educate and Unite and this is a excellent way to do this. Byron was thinking about this project for a while, but it really came to light after watching the documentary "Rocksteady" which included the Alpha Boys School. This project is about getting the kids good working instruments that they cannot afford. This music has given so much to the world and it is time we return back in kind, to the roots.
