Riding on the success of last year's Bob Marley B-Day Bash with Selassie I Power, Pepperpot - Victoria's Hypest Caribbean Radio and the Victoria BC Ska Society are proud to bring the Island one of Jamaica's most talented and entertaining contemporary roots reggae bands - ROOTZ UNDERGROUND with special guests Shane Philip and Nine Mile! It will be a night full of roots reggae, and the highest quality music from the first to last note.
All three acts will perform a mixture of original and Marley tunes in their own style.
Shane Philip will prepare a special set for Bob Marley's 65th Anniversary Jubilee representing the Island (s) massive. Shane's last reggae show that the VBCSS was in involved in was in July 2009 when he did a string of dates with Canada's top dub/reggae/drum n' bass soundsystem - Dubmatix Soundsystem. With both bands on the bill that night there was such a nice combination of roots reggae, drum n ' bass and dub step with Shane Philip's mixture of reggae, folk, funk and world-beat percussion fusion. That show made for an unforgettable evening and the only difference this time is you'll have all three acts playing their best original and Marley tunes in their own style.
To have a line-up combination like this isn't the norm... And neither is the fact that Nine Mile have been practicing with ROOTZ UNDERGROUND in preparation for this show in Jamaica throughout December & January. Nine Mile is on the rise and it's only fitting that their inspiration right now is coming straight outta Jamaica. Just in early January Nine Mile played in Kingston to a packed house and were asked to perform at the Jazz Festival by Sharon Burke - one of the top promoters in the country.
And finally ROOTZ UNDERGROUND...
Over the last decade Rootz Underground have won their fans and the respect of their contemporaries one explosive show at a time showcasing and projecting a collective energy that captivates audiences with its pure intention. It is with this ability to engage and hypnotize that Rootz Underground has set out on the tour trail, traveling through the Caribbean, North America and Hawaii in an effort to carry the message of upliftment, positivity and oneness. The year 2008 saw them touring America extensively on joint bills with foundation powerhouses such as Gregory Isaacs, Israel Vibration, The Wailing Souls, Dean Fraser as well as acts such as Anthony B and Tarrus Riley. They have played both the Raggamuffins Festival as well as The Sierra Nevada World Music Festival in California. Get ready for a Island Bob Marley B-Day Bash you'll never forget
