For those of you that know David Hillyard, you know that he is the tenor saxophonist of one of the greatest ska bands in the world: The Slackers. But what many may not have known is he is also the leader of another New York ska wonder that has been around for close to 10 years. This is David Hillyard and the Rocksteady 7. This band is a shifting collective of musicians (i.e Easy Star All Stars) that are the masters of mixing jazz, ska, reggae and Latin sounds together for an undeniably unique and flavourful sound rare to most ears.

In addition to David Hillyard the band boasts Larry McDonald who began his career back at the inception of ska music with Carlos Malcolm’s Afro Jamaicans. He went on to perform on several classic reggae tracks such as Cherry Oh Baby, Funky Kingston, and Rivers of Babylon. Then he left Jamaica and played long stints with Taj Mahal and Gil Scott-Heron.

Joining David Hillyard & Rocksteady 7 will be Victoria's The Novamatics and Jules Chaz spinning some of the best in old school ska, rocksteady with reggae, Latin and soul riddims.
