Jon Bone & The Karuna Movement
The Karuna Movement is a Jam band laying down a mix of reggae, funk, and world grooves and coloring them with catchy melodies and deep lyrical content.
We groove on a nice balance of tunes with free form, improvized jams. We're all heart. When you join us, come ready to dance!!!
Karuna means compassion. Music is medicine.
Music helps to heal the world of it's miseries by inspiring people to set down their worries, even for a short time, and be present with the vibrations emanating from the musicians. Music inspires people to dance and awaken to the reality of the sensations in their bodies; The sensations that can only be now. No past regrets or sorrows. No future desires. The pureness of the present within music of this moment. Music communicates a message and in our case, the message of awakening to the reality of this moment. To accept and enjoy it and to celebrate life through song dance. To live with a sharp and focused mind and the conscious intention to be of benefit. To walk in wisdom. . .
The Karuna Movement has been moving for centuries. It's the mission to bring the qualities of respect, kindness, wisdom and compassion into our lives and communities. This particular manifestation is lead by Jon Bone(writer, lead vocalist, guitarist, and producer).
I was born in a small town called Fort Frances in Northwestern Ontario, Canada. I was always singing through my childhood and began writing my thoughts as poetry in my early teens. In high school I sang in musicals and took a guitar class in hopes to put music to my poetry. I soon learned, however, that music was a language in itself that could express, without words, the whole spectrum of human emotions. I never lost my love for words, but the music means a lot to me now. I never really learned other artist's songs very much but instead focused on writing my own songs. I was fortunate to have a guitar teacher who insisted I learn the theory behind the music and how it all fits together. At the age of 18, with a guitar and a backpack, I traveled to the west coast of Canada.
I spent several years studying the science of mind and universal spiritual practices while I played music on the streets. Eventually I decided that if I was going to be a musician, I needed to learn more about the roots of music and the theory behind it. So I enrolled in the Jazz Performance Program at Vancouver Island University in Nanaimo, B.C. I feel very fortunate to have had the teachers I had and found so many like minded musicians in school and in the surrounding environment of Vancouver Island. But as much as I love jazz, I have always been drawn to tight grooves, a catchy melodies, and dancing. I suppose this is why I write the kinds of music I do. I have been playing solo shows for about 10 years but I really love dropping it with a band. Over the last eight years I have played in several different bands, but as we arrive in the present, I would have to say that my main project is The Karuna Movement.
Jon Bone (lead singer of Jon Bone & the Karuna Movement has a very strong passion for his music and mission. His music is of an open heart and the mission to be of benefit to the human community. He says, "I really feel that music has the potential to inspire great social change. I feel it my duty and privilege to use the skills and abilities I have as a musician and song writer to uplift people and to help inspire this positive social change. I think that the human community needs conscious music these days more than ever as the world can seem overwhelming and hopeless at times."
As a solo artist he is presently working on an acoustic album that will feature some of these sketches(re-recorded to industry standards) He is also trying to work all this into THE METTA PROJECT. This project will feature a mix of acoustic roots, jazzy folk music, trippy organic world beat and interestingly layered live loops targeted to come out in Fall 2009.
