The Bug with Manga and Dia Nos – Tuesday Nov. 11 at Distrikt
The Victoria BC Ska Society is proud to present legendary UK producer and Ninja Tune recording artist The Bug, with special guests MC Manga & Dia-Nos.
The Bug:
At this point, it’s safe to call British electronic musician Kevin Martin an icon. With a career spanning decades in every genre from grindcore to ambient, it’s perhaps his work as “The Bug” that’s the most important. Drawing from Jamaican styles such as dancehall and dub, The Bug also brings in an edge found in industrial music, bass-heavy beats, and hip-hop grooves.
Known for 2008’s exemplary London Zoo, considered a quintessential release in the UK dubstep sound, Martin’s 2014 offering Angels & Devils takes what The Bug can be to new heights.
Both a year zero of sorts for The Bug, yet drawing on what has been before. Indeed The Bug is the only producer who can bring in the likes of Grouper, Copeland, Miss Red, Gonjasufi, Flowdan, Justin Broadrick (Godflesh/Jesu), Mala, Death Grips, and Warrior Queen and make it seamless. End times need a soundtrack to prep for what's above and below, and this is it.
The Bug will be joined by UK grime MC Manga for this performance. Manga appears on Angels & Devils.
