I have been involved with the Victoria Ska and Reggae Festival in various ways since its inception 27 years ago, and it is always something special. This year, we are excited to put on a show dedicated to all the hardworking volunteers before the festival kicks off.

This event is all about giving volunteers a chance to connect, get to know each other, and enjoy a full show without having to work it. It is a chance to be part of the vibe before everything gets busy.

The festival has filled my soul with smiles for years. It is hard to explain, but everywhere you look, people are smiling ear to ear. It is that kind of energy that makes Ska and Reggae festival so unique.

The Bloodwarmers were the very first band to play Victoria Skafest 27 years ago, when it was only one day. After more than 20 years away from the stage, we are back and honoured to be performing again this year on Sunday, June 28 at Ship Point.

Before that, we are putting on a free volunteer appreciation show the week before the festival. We will be playing two full one-hour sets, digging into our full catalogue and adding a few new tunes. It is a rare chance to catch us playing a longer set, as we will only have an hour at the festival itself.

We are also bringing our friends from Vic City Skins, who will be spinning old school ska and some incredible Northern soul to keep the energy going.
