This is going to mark history in the making for our Island and the rest of Canada when Victor Rice comes in for an exclusive concert to talk about his experiences as a music producer and musician. This night will also include film screenings including a film produced by the Victoria BC Ska Society.
Victor Rice is a legendary ska musician and producer in the world of ska, dub and reggae. He regularly tours with his octet throughout Europe, Canada and the US as well as doing production on albums with various Brazilian musicians in San Paulo where he also resides part-time annually.
Victor Rice is also a talented bass player that has played with New York’s best ska bands and notably was one of Desmond Dekker's Aces in the early 1990s.
Recently, Victor Rice has become more known for his amazing production on Easy Star Records' Dub Side of the Moon which was based on Pink Floyd's album Dark Side of the Moon.
“MUSIC AND MACHINES AND MUSIC”
Victor Rice will talk about the musical aspects of engineering, and how dub music is an early example of the use of machines as instruments in popular music. He will touch on experiences with his production of Dub Side of the Moon.
Following his keynote address and dub demonstration Selector Abel will spin the very best in dancehall, dub and reggae. There will also be a screening of Victoria BC Ska Society’s Unity Film.
This is the first time this is being done and Victor Rice is very excited about the project. He will be video taped as he does the demonstration using a 1/2 inch 8 track reel to reel device.
The video coverage and discussion from Victor Rice will be of interest to any person into dub, reggae, ska, DJs and their equipment. In addition to that there will be paintings and prints of him on display at the merchandise tables.

DOORS: 8PM
Tickets: $10 - $12 at the door only. Come early to avoid disappointment.
