The Slackers return to Vancouver!
Fri. May 29th at Rickshaw Theatre Vancouver BC
7:30 PM doors at 7:00 PM
Presented by: Victoria BC Ska and Reggae Society
Friday, May 29th Victoria BC Ska & Reggae Society is excited to bring back Brooklyn NY's ska/reggae kings THE SLACKERS to Vancouver BC at The Rickshaw Theatre. The last time The Slackers came to BC in 2024 we celebrated the 25th Anniversary of the Victoria Ska & Reggae Festival.
Through The Slackers' mixed repertoire of music ranging from ska and reggae to soul, R&B, folk, and bossa nova they've managed to capture fans that span the spectrum of music with audiences of all ages. The band also plays with an aggressive edge and their songs veer in themes from the personal to the political. Since forming in 1991, the Slackers have released 16 albums, 5 EPs, and countless singles. They have performed thousands of energetic concerts for their global fanbase and remain unstoppably prolific. In their 2025 releases on Pirates Press Records, the EP “Money is King,” an indictment of the powerful as only the Slackers can do, went straight to the top 25 of the Submodern Reports album list. Their single “My Last Star” was a tribute to Hepcat's Greg Lee, fulfilling the final creative vision of the late singer. The 11-track compilation “Lost and Found Vol.2” had a surprise boogaloo breakout streaming hit with “Diskambobulated.”
Opening for The Slackers are The Elixxxirs and Generous Thieves.
The Elixxxirs featuring Bobbi-Jo Moore are a Vancouver band delivering hook-heavy originals, tight rhythms, and high-energy performances shaped by a vibrant blend of punk, ska, soul, pop, and rock influences. Fronted by songwriter Bobbi-Jo Moore, the band combines driving energy with emotionally sharp lyrics and a dynamic stage presence.
Currently recording new material, The Elixxxirs continue to evolve their sound while bringing the same driving energy that keeps audiences locked in.
Generous Thieves who will be opening the evening are relatively newer to Vancouver's ska/reggae scene but are making some serious moves in the 5 years they've been together.
Formed in 2021 in Vancouver, the band is led by singer and guitarist Andrew Conroy, joined byKeely Rammage-Scott on bass, Ian Perry on drums, and Eric Miller on keys. They have built a strong and growing fanbase in Japan, where they’ve successfully toured twice, backed by the success of their singles “Famous In Japan” and “笑顔” (Japanese for “Smile”). Their work
continues to gain momentum overseas, selling out shows in Osaka, Kobe, and Kyoto, securing radio play in Tokyo, and being featured on local television in Fukuoka.
With their upcoming second album due in 2026, Generous Thieves seeks to expand its fanbase to new territories, hoping to replicate its success in more Asian countries, as well as back home in Canada.
We are excited to welcome both The Elixxxirs and The Generous Thieves on this Slackers show.
Now after 27 years of working with the Slackers, Victoria BC Ska & Reggae Society is excited to continue the tradition of Slackers music for future generations.
