Due to unforeseen circumstances (Maskatesta's flight had to make an emergency landing in Mexico City last night and their flight is re-booked for Thursday, July 9th/09) - Maskatesta will now be playing on Friday, July 10th @ Ship Point (FREE afternoon show) with Dread Daze from Los Angeles and Greg Crowe and Scarlet Union from Winnipeg.
Brave New Waves will headline this evening's show.
Victoria's 10th Anniversary Ska Festival is happy to welcome Victoria's favourite reggae/ska beach bums Brave New Waves! Brave New Waves have been relentless with spreading their energetic and soothing reggae/ska sounds throughout Victoria, the Gulf Islands and Vancouver for a couple of years. The musicians in the band also play in other Island Latin reggae and ska bands and they're pumped to also be making their debut at the festival.
Nanaimo's (Vancouver Island) The Kiltlifters have graced Victoria's Annual Ska Festival almost since its inception in the summer of 2000. Their first appearance on the festival was in the summer of 2001 (Victoria's 2nd Annual Ska Festival) and since then they have become a main staple of the Island's ska scene. This year The Kiltlifters will also be celebrating their 10th Year Anniversary with the Victoria Ska Festival. Both the festival and the band are aging skafully;)
And finally Victoria's Rocky Mountain Rebel Music will be making their first ever appearance on the festival. Rocky Mountain Rebel Music are comprised of members from across Canada and other members from the Hoochy Girls (some of Victoria's ska young alumni). In the short time Rocky Mountain Rebel Music has been in Victoria they have injected a lot of life into the ska/reggae scene, putting on special events in non conventional venues, hosting ska BBQs and bringing out crowds in droves to other ska and reggae shows around town.
This is the kick off to Victoria's 10th Anniversary Ska Festival and we want you to be here (rain or shine or whether or not you have to work the next day)! It marks the beginning of your epic festival experience;)
