Get ready to DANCE! Victoria's 23rd Annual Ska & Reggae Festival is celebrating night 2 with one of its most deeply groovy nights of music with some of the hottest, freshest acts laying it down in Canada right now. A man of many talents and an unmatched sense of groove, we are excited to welcome FRASE to our festival stage for the first time. We've teamed up with FRASE before – both live and in pandemic-era stream form – but we figured it was long overdue that he gets our festival audience booty-shakin'. Combining live instrumentation with modern production and big bass grooves, and topping it off with sharp, thoughtful lyricism, there's not much going right now that hits the vibes of a FRASE show. He'll be coming with his friend and frequent collaborator FAWNA – a singer with an incredible voice and more than a bit of charisma. If you've seen any of the collaboration videos they've released on YouTube or caught them before, you know that they create truly beautiful sounds together.
Returning to our stage for this grooviest of nights is one of Canada's hottest rappers DEF3, who will be backed by Vancouver's DJ KEMO. Def3 has long been established as a true keeper of hip-hop culture – not only is he an MC but he is also a renowned graffiti artist – who has continuously forged new bonds betweens old-school, conscious hip-hop and the high energy of big-bass electronic music, creating a wholly new lane for himself in the modern music landscape. Def3 has always brings big rhymes and serious flow when he's got the mic in his hand and every time he shows up on our stage manages to turn it up another notch. We're not expecting anything different when he returns to party with us this time. Joining Frase and Def3 is one of the strongest, most unique groove acts in Victoria, Blasé Blasé. A stunningly groovy melding of live instruments, tight electronic production, soulful vocals and elastic raps, Blasé Blasé has quickly become a Ska & Reggae Society favourite with certified fresh performances on our livestreams and this years Garden City Grooves – where they lit the stage up before Fort Knox Five. Come join us in getting down to this incredible lineup for Night 2 of Victoria's 23rd Annual Ska & Reggae Festival. Holding it down on the 1s and 2s between sets is one of Vancouver Island's most revered and skilled turntable wizards, DJ ALLGOOD.
